At Simonside, we teach Computing using the Teach Computing Scheme. This structured programme ensures that pupils develop key skills and knowledge across the three strands of the computing curriculum: computer science, information technology, and digital literacy. The scheme provides a clear progression of learning from Year 1 through to Year 6, supporting pupils in becoming confident, creative, and safe users of technology.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we introduce computing concepts through elements of the Barefoot Computing programme. This provides age-appropriate, play-based experiences that help children develop early computational thinking and problem-solving skills in engaging and meaningful ways.
In addition to the Teach Computing lessons, we enhance our digital literacy and online safety provision through the use of Natterhub, an interactive platform designed to help children learn how to navigate the online world responsibly and respectfully. We deliver four Natterhub lessons per term, ensuring full coverage of the UKCIS Education for a Connected World framework. These engaging lessons and activities allow pupils to explore real-world online scenarios, reinforcing safe, kind, and informed behaviour when using digital technology.
Together, the Teach Computing Scheme and Natterhub ensure our pupils receive a comprehensive, balanced, and up-to-date computing education, preparing them for the digital world both now and in the future.
